CRIS Radios
Provided
by Chicagoland Radio Information Service, CRIS radios are single frequency
pre-tuned radios through which verbatim readings of newspapers and magazines
can be heard during predetermined time slots. If you or someone you
know has a visual or physical impairment that makes reading traditional
print sources difficult, stop by the Adult Reference Desk to find out more.
Voices of Vision
Individuals who have difficulty reading
traditional print sources due to visual or physical impairments can sign up
in Adult Services for the federally sponsored Voices of Vision program.
This service provides, free of charge, the loan of a cassette player and
taped books that are mailed directly to your home.
Homebound Delivery
Elk Grove Village residents who are unable to
visit the library on a long-term basis due to a physical impairment or
unusual circumstances can request that materials be delivered to their home
by a library staff member.
Sign Language Interpreter
A sign language interpreter will be made
available at the library upon request. Patrons must contact the
library at least seven days in advance.
Motorized Scooter
A battery-powered scooter is available for use
in the library for those individuals in need of ambulatory assistance.
Magnifier
Individuals
with low vision who have difficulty reading standard size print can use our
Optelec machine. This machine magnifies printed material of all types
on a large monitor.
Large Screen Computer Monitor
Individuals with visual impairments can access
to our online catalog through a large screen monitor that enlarges text.
TDD Machine
The library provides telephone service to
those with hearing disabilities through a TDD machine. Call (847)
