Volunteer Meeting

The Elk Grove Village Public Library needs VOLUNTEERS! The 2013 Summer Reading Program, Dig Into Reading, will run from Monday, June 10th to Friday, July 26th. If you are interested in volunteering, please come to our meeting tonight!

You should attend the meeting with a parent and bring along a copy of your summer schedule (vacation, music lessons, etc.) After a short introduction, you will be signing up for your volunteer time slots on a first come, first serve basics. We look forward to seeing you there!

Bus Trip: Lincoln Park, Inside & Out!

When: Thursday, May 23, 2013 - 8:45 AM - 3:45 PM

Join us for another fabulous Chicago neighborhood tour as we visit one of the city's most popular and lovely areas. During the day, we'll see both the luxurious neighborhood as well as the scenic lakefront park. On our driving tour, a professional guide narrates and points out famous Lincoln Park sights such as DePaul University, Old Town with its famous Second City Theatre of Dillinger fame and Oz Park. We then go into the Chicago History Museum which houses the first passenger "L" car and the first steam locomotive to operate in Chicago. The museum also features the Lincoln alcove and the bed on which he dies in Washington D.C. North & Clark Cafe will cater a delicious sandwich buffet luncheon for us at the Museum. We will then have a narrated bus tour through the scenic park and pass sights such as the Lincoln Park Zoo, Conservatory, General Grant statue, Elks Memorial and the scenic harbors along Lake Michigan. The day ends with a visit to the Butterfly Conservatory in the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. $72 tickets available at the Registration/Information Desk.

Bus Trip: Notre Dame & South Bend Legends

When: Thursday, June 06, 2013 - 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM

We'll start the day with a stroll through the picturesque campus of ivy-colored walls and gothic buildings like the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (opened in 1892 and in the shape of the cross),the Main building (which is framed Golden Dome topped by the golden statue of St. Mary), and the Hesburgh Library (with its south wall mural "The World of Life) which if often called Touchdown Jesus.) There will be free time to shop and explore at the Eck Visitor's Center and Bookstore followed by lunch at Tippecanoe Place which was once the palatial mansion of Clement Studebaker. We will tour this legendary automaker's home with 40 rooms and 20 fireplaces! finally, we'll see another of South Bend's treasures, the South Bend Chocolate Factory, makers of gourmet chocolates. As we tour, we can have samples and take pictures at Lucy and Ethel's replica conveyor belt! $75 tickets available at the Registration/Information Desk.

Opening Day Summer Reading Program 2013

Dip Into Reading! Youth Services will be giving out a special tote bag to every Read-to-me, Reader, and Young Adult who registers for the Summer Reading Program on this day. We will continue to give them out while supplies last. A full listing of our prizes will be available in the Youth Services Department.

Dave Rudolph

Where: Large Meeting Room

We'll be grooving at Dave's Dig Show! There will be hula hoops, bubble machines, shakers, and jump ropes. We'll be doing limbo, doing a dinosaur stomp, working in a coal mine going down, down, down in a conga line, and even digging in ancient Egypt to find out "My Mommy Was a Mummy!" Can you dig it?

This program is limited to the first 200 people. Due to space limitations, no strollers will be allowed.

Game Night

When: Friday, June 14, 2013 - 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Come to the library "after hours" on one of our monthly game nights where you can answer the "Call of Duty," snipe a zombie "Left 4 Dead," or solve the mystery of whodunit in an old-school game of "Clue." We'll supply the snacks and games.

Players must be at least 12 years of age; those under 17 require a signed parental permission slip. No one will be permitted after 7pm.
