Getting a Library Card

Temporary Library Cards

We're offering temporary library cards to Elk Grove Village residents who don't have a library card or whose library card has expired. Email us at letsgetdigital@egvpl.org with your name and mailing address to request a temporary library card. You will receive a temporary library card number within 24 hours, and it will be active until the Library reopens. After that time, you can come in to the Library to request a permanent card.

For Residents

All Elk Grove Village residents within incorporated Elk Grove Village are eligible for a library card at no charge. Property or business owners in incorporated Elk Grove Village may also obtain a free library card.

The prospective patron will be asked for proof of identification with a photo ID and proof of eligible residency. Elk Grove Village residency is demonstrated by an Elk Grove Village address on an Illinois Driver's license or a state Illinois photo ID. Residency may also be demonstrated by another photo ID, along with one of the following documents displaying an Elk Grove Village address: a utility bill, a Cook County Voter's card, a property tax bill, or a mortgage or lease.

To get an Elk Grove Village Library card, stop by the Circulation Services Desk in the Lobby or call (847) 439-0447 and dial 1 for further information.

For Non-Residents

Don't live in Elk Grove Village? Non-residents may purchase a family card based on their property tax bill or lease/renter's agreement. Please contact Circulation Services at (847) 725-2178 for details.

Overdue Notices

When library material is not returned to the Elk Grove Village Public Library, the Library generates notices to remind the patron that they have library material out.

Borrowers are expected to return library material before or on the specified due date. The Library will send overdue reminders when library materials are 15 days and 30 days overdue.

After 45 days, borrowers are billed for the replacement costs of library material. Returning the material will remove this charge from the borrower's account.

When library material is not returned within 60 days, the Library will turn the borrower's account over to a materials recovery agency, and the borrower is charged a flat $9 fee. If library material is returned, the borrower will not be charged for the replacement cost of the item, but they are responsible for paying the $9 material recovery fee.

Reciprocal Borrowing

Your resident Elk Grove Village Public Library card may be used at virtually any library in Illinois. You will need to register with them first, however, and proper ID is required. Your borrowed items may be returned at the Elk Grove Village Public Library.
