Cards for Kids Program
About the Program
The new Cards for Kids Act is an amendment to Illinois Public Library Non-Resident Services that allows students in prekindergarten through 12th grade to obtain a library card with full borrowing privileges free of charge if they:
- Live in unincorporated Elk Grove Township
- Attend schools in Elk Grove Village
- Participate in the Federal Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program at school
Cards covered by this Act will only be registered in a student's name and are good for one year.
How to Apply
Applying in Person
Step 1
Parent and student stop in the Elk Grove Village Public Library and visit the Circulation Services Desk with the information listed below:
- Current valid identification*
- Letter of free and reduced lunch eligibility received from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). If you have misplaced this letter, please request documentation from your school. Illinois State Law requires this information to determine eligibility. The library card cannot be issued without this information.
Step 2
Library card is issued.
Applying Online
Step 1
Complete and submit the online application form below, including an upload of the student's lunch eligibility letter.
Step 2
When the card is approved, the Library will call to let you know it is ready for pick up.
Step 3
Parent and student visit the Library Circulation Desk with current valid identification*. If you were unable to upload the lunch eligibility letter, you must also bring that with you.
Step 4
Library card is issued.
*NOTE: Parent/guardian must bring an Illinois driver's license or a state identification card. Other acceptable forms of identification include another photo ID, along with one of the following documents displaying an Elk Grove Village Township address
- Utility bill
- Cook County Voter's card
- Property tax bill
- Mortgage or lease
